talk is cheap

we love to talk, most like to talk,

some seem interested in not talking,

by the silence,

in letting the silence reveal what words conceal,

in the streets, dorms, classrooms,

talk of cheap, plastic, “how are you doings” and “how’s it goings” ;

meet the person saying the hello—

not the person,

because what are people without this talk—

the husk, the shell, the gregarious attire;

present yourself accordingly according to what’s been in accord,

for no one prefers the silent, squishy flesh underneath,

sometimes battered, imperfect,

sometimes hurt, damaged,

but still very much what’s real
