I still must keep rewinding

I must keep rewinding and winding and winding ;

and ignoring all the nuts and bolts and gears that have misaligned,

I still keep rewinding and winding and winding ;

some parts fall—they go unheard,

the clinks and clanking and clashing are but just silent vibrations,

and only the winding—pruuup, pruuup, pruuup—catches the attention ;

slowly the winding must hasten,

because fewer parts means less work,

so I still must keep rewinding ;

and for damaged machines, no replacement is allowed—

no spares in the drawer, no lost parts to reclaim—

so make do with the rewinding,

even if no amount will ever suffice
